Trouble With Father (The Stu Erwin Show)

Trouble With Father, a sitcom, made its ABC debut in October 1950 and ended in April 1955, producing 130 episodes. I have no idea how many still exist, but 29 appear on these 2 discs. (Ep 23 - Black Saturday isn't showing up in the photo for some reason.) The name of the show was later changed to The Stu Erwin Show or The Stu & June Erwin Show and enjoyed syndication for a number of years after it ended.
Stu Erwin and June Collyer, husband and wife in real life, play Stu and June Erwin on the show. No need to worry about calling someone by their real name on that stage! (June Collyer looked like she could have been Angela Thorne's mother......and Eddie Munster's too for that matter.) They have two daughters, Joyce - a late teener played by Ann Todd except for the final season, and Jackie - a grade-schooler played by Sheila James. Sheila James would mature into the well-known role of Zelda on Dobie Gillis, then go onto Harvard Law School and become an elected member of the California legislature for a number of years. Joyce had a boyfriend in the first season played by Martin Milner who would later have a role in the Life of Riley and star in Route 66 and Adam-12. Martin is now a couple months shy of his 80th birthday....as the world turns ever faster and faster. The Erwin's also had a handyman played by Willie Best called......Willie (of course). I'm afraid the way Stu treated Willie and the way they had Willie act will make your skin crawl a little bit, even if you're like me and not overly sensitive. Willie was also the elevator man on My Little Margie. The Albright's treated him much better than the Erwin's did. As with Beulah and Mama, this is another early 50's show that was produced without a laugh track.
